We are big believers in mixing and matching – and it’s not just when it comes to your Sunday afternoon outfit!
Mixing and matching your homewares and décor allows you to explore a unique interior style that is totally your own; reflecting your personal taste and showing off your creativity.
Here are a few tips we swear by when styling a home.
1. Colour Palette on Point
We usually start with 2 or 3 colours as our base palette. They can be complimentary colour tones, or totally contrasted! The colours you select will serve as a grounding colour to pair with your smaller accessories and decor. In true mix & match style, you can incorporate as many colours as you wish (there are no rules!) however sticking to 2 or 3 base colours will ensure the overall room as a whole will have a theme. We still want it to look dazzling, not disheveled!
2. Pile on the Texture
It wouldn’t be a mix & match without an assortment of beautiful, luxe textures intertwining together! When it comes to textures and fibres – there pretty much are no rules. We love a mix of linen, wool, cotton, silk and velvet. Choosing to use different textures frees up the ability to play within the same colour spectrums without creating an overly messy look. From your cushions to your throws, bedhead and rug, you can create a feeling of warmth and coziness by layering these on.
3. Play with Prints
Playful and pretty prints are the perfect way to make a statement in your room: it can be subtle, or it can be super bold. The choice is entirely up to you.
Floral, leopard, spot, stripe, abstract, Aztec, Moroccan… the list is virtually endless (which is why we will never stop designing!)
We’re also not afraid to mix and match prints too! You can create some pretty unique visual combinations if you play your cards right – e.g. the prints are in the same colour tones, or the juxtaposed colours work to create a sharp and edgy contrast. Sometimes our best styling is by sheer happy accident, so experiment with your homewares until it looks and feels right to you. It’s all part of the fun of styling.
4. Surround Yourself with Accessories
Your home should be a reflection of your true personality and style, as well as your fond memories. There are no rules when it comes to accessorizing, as your gut will tell you if something makes your heart sing. We are drawn to certain colours, certain prints and certain styles naturally.
Our main four must-haves when it comes to dressing a space are: rugs, cushions, throws and artwork. Why? It ensures we’re covering all bases (literally from top of the wall to the bottom of the floor), so a cohesive look is achieved and the space looks ‘finished’.
5. Don't Forget About Yourself!
You’re just as part of the room as your bed or your cushions. In fact, you’re the star of the show! Treat yourself to a beautiful bathrobe and feel truly at home. We know, we know; it’s totally taking it to another level when you’re mixing and matching with your own bedroom! :P
But home, and especially your bedroom, is meant for resting and relaxation. Turn your own home into a day spa and remember, it's all about having fun with your styling!
